Bill Gross is souring on Brazil.
After the country's real-denominated debt plunged 13.6% last year, more than the 9% average decline for developing nations, Pacific Investment Management Co.'s chief investment officer said this week that Brazil was no longer a preferred market. His $237 billion Total Return Fund cut Brazilian assets to 3.27% in December from 4.18% three months earlier, its most recent investment report showed.
Pimco is turning away from Latin America's biggest economy more than a decade after the firm bought Brazilian bonds as they plunged before presidential elections in 2002, a bet that proved prescient and burnished the reputation of Chief Executive Officer Mohamed El-Erian. Mr. Gross's comment, coming a year after he said the real was a better use of cash than buying junk bonds, shows how investors are losing confidence in President Dilma Rousseff as economic growth slows and Brazil lifts its interest rate above 10% to contain inflation.

Another huge benefit which was imbedded in the value of RTEC was the tens of millions of net operating losses (NOL) that the company had accrued as a result of the massive accrual losses it would sustain during the credit crisis. These benefits were not reflected on the balance sheet but they would translate into tens of millions of dollars in income tax savings when the company eventually returned to profitability.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Bryan Murphy]
If the forecasters are on target (and they usually are), then construction and engineering names like Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) and Chicago Bridge & Iron Company N.V. (NYSE:CBI) should have a very solid 2015. Construction in the United States, and heavy construction in particular, is projected to grow in the coming year, setting up something of a boost for tickers like CBI and JEC. Chicago Bridge & Iron Company and Chicago Bridge & Iron Company N.V. aren't the only ways to play the trend, however. In fact, the blatant obviousness of them as beneficiaries likely saps some of their upside for newcomers. Investors looking for the bigger opportunities built into the positive construction outlook may want to consider the names that also - but quietly - benefit from rising construction activity... off-the-radar names like CES Synergies Inc. (OTCBB:CESX).
